چکیده

Written by prominent experts in the field, this monograph provides the first comprehensive and unified presentation of the structural, algorithmic, and applied aspects of the theory of Boolean functions. The book focuses on algebraic representations of Boolean functions, especially disjunctive and conjunctive normal form representations. It presentswithin this framework the fundamental elements of the theory (Boolean equations and satisfiability problems, prime implicants and associated short representations, dualization), an in-depth study of special classes of Boolean functions (quadratic, Horn, shellable, regular, threshold, read-once functions and their characterization by functional equations), and two fruitful generalizations of the concept of Boolean functions (partially defined functions and pseudo-Boolean functions). Several topics are presented here in book form for the first time. Because of the unique depth and breadth of the unified treatment that it provides and its emphasis on algorithms and applications, this monograph will have special appeal for researchers and graduate students in discrete mathematics, operations research, computer science, engineering, and economics.

ON THE FUZZY SET THEORY AND AGGREGATION FUNCTIONS: HISTORY AND SOME RECENT ADVANCES

Several fuzzy connectives, including those proposed by Lotfi Zadeh, can be seen as linear extensions of the Boolean connectives from the scale ${0,1}$ into the scale $[0,1]$. We discuss these extensions, in particular, we focus on the dualities arising from the Boolean dualities. These dualities allow to transfer the results from some particular class of extended Boolean functions, e.g., from c...

Derivative Operations for Lattices of Boolean Functions

This paper explores derivative operations of the Boolean differential calculus for lattices of Boolean functions. Such operations are needed to design circuits with short delay and low power consumption [3] as well as to calculate minimal complete sets of fitting test patterns [4]. It will be shown that each derivative operation of a lattice of Boolean functions creates again a lattice of Boole...

On the Symmetric Property of Homogeneous Boolean Functions

We use combinatorial methods and permutation groups to classify homogeneous boolean functions. The property of symmetry of a boolean function limits the size of the function’s class. We exhaustively searched for all boolean functions on V6. We found two interesting classes of degree 3 homogeneous boolean functions: the first class is degree 3 homogeneous bent boolean functions; and the second i...

Boolean Differential Equations

The expressiveness of Boolean Algebras is significantly extended by the Boolean Differential Calculus (BDC). The additionally defined differentials of Boolean variables, differentials and further differential operators of Boolean functions as well as several derivative operations of Boolean functions allow to model changes of function values together with changes of the values of variables and ...

Combinatorial method for Boolean SAC functions designing

In this paper a new approach for designing Boolean functions that satisfy the Strict Avalanche Criterion (SAC) is presented. The advantage of the suggested approach is the simplicity of its realization and the significant greater number of the generated functions compared to the known methods. The formalized procedure for construction of nonbalanced and balanced SAC-functions is described in de...

The ring of real-valued functions on a frame

In this paper, we define and study the notion of the real-valued functions on a frame $L$. We show that $F(L) $, consisting of all frame homomorphisms from the power set of $mathbb{R}$ to a frame $ L$, is an $f$-ring, as a generalization of all functions from a set $X$ into $mathbb R$. Also, we show that $F(L) $ is isomorphic to a sub-$f$-ring of $mathcal{R}(L)$, the ring of real-valued continu...
